“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine”.
1 Timothy 4:13
Why should we pay attention to God’s word? God’s word is potent and can direct a believer on the path of righteousness. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” Psalms 119:105; this scripture describes the functions of God’s word.
The scripture for today identified three basic steps to Christian living in expectation of the second coming of Jesus Christ. Firstly, a believer should always read the word of God daily as it serves as a diet to the inner man which represents a man’s spirit. Secondly, a child of God should constantly preach God’s word to the saving of souls and also encourage fellow believers with the promises of God in his word.
The third step is teaching the word of God, instilling sound doctrine, and paying attention to the spiritual growth of believers and oneself. These steps should be obeyed conscientiously by every believer as we look forward to reigning with Jesus Christ at His second coming into the world. May we be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to study, preach, and teach God’s word daily in Jesus’ name (Amen).
