“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So, Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Job 1:6-7
Have you ever wondered what ignited the conversation between the Lord and Satan? From the above verses, we will observe that the sons of God presented themselves before Him to give an account of their duties. According to some commentaries, the sons of God here meant the Angels, for they also give reports of their actions. Now, Satan came with them on that particular day even though he knew that wasn’t his place anymore. Don’t forget that Satan was a falling angel too. So, he would do all he could to ensure that no man enjoys what it means to be a child of God. However, everyone would give an account. Note that.
“From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” This was the response of Satan to God. What did you observe from that response? He was going about his evil works dutifully, without rest. He had gone back and forth, wrecking people’s lives—those who had neglected their place in Jesus Christ. Those who have forsaken the Lord, their God. Those who have neglected their soul-winning duty; those who are preoccupied with the worries of this world.
Sadly, Satan is not resting, but we, the children of God, are. So, brethren, return to your post. The devil is watching you, and he is waiting for you to lose guard. At times, he will even strike without you losing sight of God, just like he did to Job. But are you prepared? See, the truth is that the devil cannot do anything to you without permission from God. But that is if you’re on God’s side. There are some people the devil does not waste his time on—those he has trapped. He won’t keep disturbing the lives of those who seem like his own already because he knows they have nowhere to go. He will not rest until he has won the righteous and upright to himself. May you and I not be won over by the dutifulness of Satan.
Therefore, Beloved, “Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Pet. 5:8. We shall all give an account of whatever we do here on earth. Don’t let the things of this world distract you from your duty because even the devil is dutiful in his evildoings. WATCH AND PRAY.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for exposing how dutiful the devil is to me. Please forgive me for neglecting my duty and getting easily distracted by the things of this world. I know I have failed in so many ways, so much that the devil is more dutiful than I am. Please have mercy on me, Lord, and show me your salvation. Please help me to walk righteously before you so much that You can be proud of me like Job. Help me to stop falling into the devil’s traps and threats. Open my eyes to see that whatever the devil does is happening because you allowed it, and help me never to disappoint You. Please give me the grace to finish this race and help me to give a blameless account on the last day, for I have prayed in Jesus’ name.
