“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.”
Exodus 18:21-22
When Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, saw how tirelessly Moses laboured to lead and judge the people, he recognised something Moses did not — that leadership, no matter how divine its calling, was never meant to be carried alone. God’s work thrives not merely through the strength of one but through the shared strength of many.
Leadership strength is not found in doing everything by ourselves; it is found in wisely dividing responsibilities among faithful, capable hands. Moses obeyed this counsel, appointing men of integrity to share the burden, and the nation prospered because of his obedience.
In the same way, the body of Christ finds its greatest strength in divine division — not division that breaks, but division that builds. When gifts, callings, and responsibilities are distributed according to grace, each part of the body functions effectively, and the work of God advances without strain or burnout.
Charge: You may not be called to lead thousands, but there is a portion of God’s work that depends on your obedience and faithfulness. Refuse to hoard the work or neglect your part. Strength multiplies when responsibility is shared.
