“The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”

Psalm 29:11

After losing his young son to illness and then all four daughters in a shipwreck, Horatio Spafford penned these words as his ship passed near the spot where his children drowned: “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way; when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”

This hymn reminds us that peace is not the absence of storms, trouble or problems, but the presence of Christ within them. God’s peace flows like a steady river through the roughest waters, carrying strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

Life won’t always unfold the way we expect. Some days bring laughter and joy, while others carry problems that steal our peace. But God has assured us: “The Lord will bless His people with peace.” His peace is not dependent on perfect circumstances, but a gift (His gift) to sustain us every day.

Charge: Today, go with this: “Peace He leaves with you; His peace He gives to you. He does not give to you as the world gives.”
