“He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”

Revelation 3:5

Have you ever understood life as a race, or perhaps it ever crossed your mind that life is a battleground? If life is then viewed as a race, then it is important that we’re aware of the purpose of our participation. On the other hand, if perceived as a battleground, we may want to ask, “With whom do we fight?”

Whether life is viewed as an athletic race or is perceived as a battleground, something is common to both: to win or be won. The Apostle Paul described his journey of faith as a time-bound race which he had finished, in 2 Timothy 4:7. He also acknowledged a believer’s battle to be a spiritual one in Ephesians 6:12. These are indicators of life being both a race and a battleground.

Now, it is to those who overcome Satan, sin, and struggles that the latter reward spoken about in our text will be given. Life shouldn’t be lived complacently. There’s a means in which we’re implored to run/fight—get the crown (James 1:12, 1 Corinthians 9:24). Having been aware that our greatest reward shall come from above, let us run with eternity in view, rather than settle for earthly gain.

Charge: Keep your eyes set on Jesus till the end of time.
