“Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.”
Micah 7:5
We all make many mistakes as a result of our tongues. A man who cannot control his mouth will sooner or later enter into trouble. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and be able to control ourselves in every other area.
A word out of your mouth may seem to have no meaning, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, set the whole world up on fire and go up in smoke with it—smoke right from the pit of hell.
Rehoboam didn’t watch his words while responding to the children of Israel, and it led to the division of his kingdom. Dathan, Korah and Abiram questioned Moses’ leadership, which led to their destruction. Beloved, we get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. All of us do many wrong things, but if you can control your tongue, you are mature and able to control your whole body.
Charge: If you could find someone whose speech was perfectly true, you would have a perfect person, in perfect control of life.
