“I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.”

Philippians 4:12

One of the very important things for us to note is that the Christian journey isn’t always a smooth one. There are days of plenty and days of lack, seasons of celebration and seasons of challenge. Yet, Paul speaks here from a place of maturity when he says, “I know how…”

Paul had learned the secret of living in both abundance and adversity without losing faith or joy in the Lord. Paul’s words are a reminder to us that God doesn’t promise a life without trials, but He does offer grace to endure each season. Whether abased or abounding, we are called to stay grounded in Christ.

True contentment is not based on circumstance, but on our relationship with God. Like Paul, can you say you’ve learned to trust God when your barn is full and when it is empty? When life makes sense and when it doesn’t?

Charge: Let your stability not be in material things, but in God’s never-failing presence, every season.
