“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”

James 1:19

We often find ourselves rushing to respond, reacting impulsively, and speaking without thinking.

Listening is a powerful tool that can help us build stronger relationships, avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary explanations, and gain valuable insights. When we take the time to truly listen to others, we show them that we value and respect them. We also create space for the Holy Spirit to speak to us and guide us.

On the other hand, speaking without thinking can lead to hurtful words, damaged relationships, and regret. When we speak impulsively, we often say things we don’t mean, and those words can have lasting consequences. Therefore, it is crucial to cultivate self-control to respond thoughtfully and calmly, even in challenging situations.

Charge: Learn to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.

Further Study: Psalm 141:3; Proverbs 10:19, 17:27-28, 18:13, 29:20; Ecclesiastes 5:2; James 3:17.

Have a blessed weekend.
