“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1
It is not enough to boast about partaking in Jesus’ death if we are not as well identified with Him in resurrection. Until we are associated with Jesus’ resurrection, our hearts cannot be set on things above.
Setting our hearts on things above simply implies that we live by heaven’s standard and are banking on the resources of God more than is depicted to us by the physical evidence all around. It also means the giving away of all rights and privileges and prioritizing the promises and the provisions of God for the kingdom and eternal purpose only.
It takes a man who’s renewed and seated with Christ, by the unification of the Spirit through death and resurrection, to seek things that are beyond this realm; else, we’d be made to believe that earthly inheritance is all there is to life. Those redeemed by Christ can no longer get satisfaction from the things of this world, nor can they anymore please God with them in any way. Our longings become the path of righteousness while pleasing God becomes the very desire of our hearts.
Charge: Stay with Christ, and you will no longer be constrained by worldly desires.
