“Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?”

Jeremiah 49:7

Three things every wise person must have, firstly, the fear of the Lord—for it is the beginning of wisdom. Secondly, openness to wise and Godly counsel because in the multitude of counsel, there is safety, and thirdly, humility because it is only a humble person who can be corrected and whose heart is not exalted, that will not fall and become victim to foolishness.

Sadly, these days, wisdom is described as knowing how to deceive, and how to cut corners. However, that’s not wisdom. In our passage, we notice God asking why there is such an absence of wisdom in the land. He is also asking why counsel is absent. That tells us that if wisdom is absent in our lives or environment, it is not God’s fault but ours.

God already said that if there is any that lacks wisdom, let them ask Him. The Lord gives wisdom and does not withhold it. But it is only a man who is humble and fears the Lord that can look up to Him, ask, and also accept His ways. There will be suffering ahead for anyone who chooses to abandon the ways and counsel of the wise and go his own way. Be warned!

Charge: Be wise in God’s way!
