”That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;”
1 John 1:1
As believers, we must never forget the efficacy of the Word of Life that has been handed over to us. The apostle here leaves us with both a call and a reminder that our faith is not based on cunningly devised fables but grounded upon a Life.
The beautiful thing about this verse is how it shows the different layers and progression of our encounters with the Word of Life. It first talked about our hearing of the Word of Life which is a personality that existed from the beginning exactly as John 1:1 says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Then the scripture moves a bit further to stress the need for us to have an experiential walk with this Word of Life, when it talked about seeing and gazing. Though we were not there when the Word walked upon the earth as a person, we can still see Him and touch the reality of His person through an experiential walk with His Spirit—the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to further strengthen our faith, we must remain conscious and intentional about the progressions as handed out in today’s scripture.
Charge: Commit to an experiential walk with the Holy Spirit today.
