“The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD.”
Hosea 1:2
God chose and loved us unconditionally before the foundation of the world. As His dear children, He wants us closer to Him and desires us to have intimate fellowship with Him at all times. That’s why it breaks His heart when His beloved children commit adultery, whether physically or spiritually. Today, we shall focus on spiritual adultery.
What is spiritual adultery? It is being unfaithful to God, forsaking His everlasting love, and chasing after the vanity of this world’s goods and values. In the Old Testament, the Bible uses the story of Prophet Hosea’s marriage to his unfaithful wife, Gomer, to illustrate Israel’s infidelity to God.
Today, Gomer represents the believer who turns away from their first love to chase after fame, money, acceptance by the world, and other forms of idolatry, thereby making themselves enemies of God. However, our heavenly Father, in His mercy and loving-kindness, wants us back. Like the prodigal son, He is waiting with open arms to receive you.
The world is full of trouble, but in Christ is everlasting peace. Therefore, don’t wait a minute longer because His Spirit will not strive with man forever.
Charge: Stay faithful to God by serving and pleasing Him with your life.
