“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.”
James 1:13-14
We should be aware that temptations do not come from God but occurs when someone is drawn away of his own lust.
Here’s a quick study at biblical characters that reveals how humans are tempted by lust and not God. Samson’s story teaches us to watch against selfish desires that mature into lust. He lusted after a Philistine woman and it resulted to his downfall (Judges 16).
There’s a need to guide against the lust of the eyes and flesh because it is detrimental to our faith-walk as believers. Eve saw that the fruit was pleasant to the eyes, and this made her fall into temptation.
We should not accrue our mistakes, faults and errors as tests of faith from God. “Our God is good all the time”; He doesn’t respond to us with evil as described in James 1:18. Whenever we fall into temptation or make grievous mistakes, we should ask God for forgiveness and guard our hearts by the help of the Holy Spirit.
May the Lord help us to overcome lust and all forms of temptations in Jesus’ name. Amen.
