“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

Jude 1:3

This was Jude writing to urge the church to contend for the faith. The word for contend means to “make a strenuous, labored effort.” It means to fight, to wrestle, struggle (contend) for the faith.

Now why should we contend for the faith? This is because, (verse 4), false teachers have crept into the Christian community, and they’re perverting the grace of God and denying the authority of Jesus. Nowadays, the church is fighting against false teachings, doctrine and theology as it is.

Everything bad now looks normal. Sin has now been given another name. False teachings are now celebrated. Immorality is now a norm. We have a lot going on around us, and we are encouraged by today’s scripture to contend for the moral and good teachings that was once handed over to us. We are talking about faith that is put in grace and truth of Jesus Christ — the Gospel.

The grace of God is not a license to immorality. Therefore the message of Christ should henceforth be glorified.

Charge: Beware of false teachers with their teachings. Grace is not a license to sin. Contend by glorifying God in all your ways.

Stay blessed.
