“Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.”1 Corinthians 14:12
Do your spiritual gifts edify the body of Christ? Are you using the spiritual gifts you once desired, for the edification of the church? In today’s scripture, Apostle Paul admonishes that though it is a good thing to desire spiritual gifts, it is a more crucial thing to desire them for the sake of edifying the church.
The only way God will be glorified in our lives is when we allow desires to be of God and a blessing to the body of Christ – that which will be for the benefit of our brethren in Christ.
We are also encouraged as children of God that our zeal for spiritual gifts should be backed by the right motive. Our motives for desiring spiritual gifts should not be to exalt ourselves but to edify others and glorify God.
Today, let us reflect on our motives for desiring certain spiritual gifts. Do you want it because you want to be a blessing to the body of Christ or do you want it just for bragging rights and boastfulness? May our Father give us spiritual gifts that will edify the church.
