“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:1-2
We should be reminded that our journey here on Earth is temporal and there’s a permanent residency in heaven for every believer who walks with God in obedience to His words.
Nowadays, people are overwhelmed with the evolutionary changes in the world system and this has made them distracted. People hardly find time to relate with God or fellowship with Him because they need to meet up with one target or the other. We now understand the reason for Jesus’ statement, when He said, “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Today’s scripture complements this verse of the Bible, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33. We are encouraged to set our affections on things above because they are of eternal value to us. If Jesus who died for us and is now risen had placed His affections on things here on earth, it would have been very difficult for Him to die for us.
Whenever we seek the face of God, spend more time with Him, and serve and obey Him dutifully, He settles all areas of our lives. We are able to see today because Jesus set His looked beyond the pleasures of this world. May the Lord help us to set our affections on things above in Jesus’ name. Amen
