“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

2 Timothy 2:19

We all have different identity cards that show our identity, whether in an organization, school, business and so on. These identity cards are necessary to avoid embarrassment and mistaken identity.

The apostles were first called ‘CHRISTIANS’ in Antioch. The word ‘Christians’ means Christ-like; the apostle were called Christians not because they followed Jesus in His lifetime but because people saw Christ in them. They spoke and acted like Christ. When people saw them it was as if they were seeing Christ because the apostles had an identity that showed Christ to the world.

Our word for today makes it clear that there is a seal on those who are God’s and whosoever that wants to identify with God must depart from iniquities. Iniquities are the works of the flesh as put in Gal 5:19-21.

This seal is righteousness. What distinguishes a Christian from a mere unbeliever is our ability to live a righteous and upright life. This is our identity in Christ. God’s foundation is sure. He is not a man that can be bribed

Thought for the day: As believers, total abstinence from iniquities is paramount if we truly want to be on the Lord’s side.
