“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.”
Numbers 25:10-11
The scriptures for today serves as a powerful reminder of the seriousness of sin and the importance of obedience to God’s commands.
The scriptures explains it the consequences of disobedience and the importance of following God’s commands. It also highlights the fact that sin has a ripple effect and can ultimately bring harm not only to the individual but to the entire community.
But because of Phinehas’ zealousness, the plague was stopped and God’s wrath was appeased. Phinehas’ actions also shows the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of opposition. He risked his own life to stop the sin and preserve the holiness of God’s people.
If because of one man’s action, God could reconsider His anger against an entire nation, then you aren’t exempted. Your action can save people and cause God to show mercy upon others. So, rather than seeking the downfall of others and dwelling in sin, let’s do all we can to make God happy with us and them. May the Lord strengthen us to be committed, in Jesus name. Amen.
