DON’T MISUSE GOD’S GRACE

“Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me forever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.”

1 Samuel 2:30.

Are you for God or against Him? Today’s devotional sheds light on the displeasure God faced with the children of Eli. Reading through the passage, we recognise that God had commanded Eli’s fathers to walk before Him, and in response, He honored them among the children of Israel.

However, due to Eli’s sons’ sins, God reversed His previous declaration about Eli’s house. Eli’s sons defiled the house of God, violated His people, and led women into sin, promoting widespread wrongdoing. The people might have wondered, “What good is honoring God when the priest’s sons set such negative examples?”

Consider the impact of their actions, leading many into sin. While God is merciful, He can revoke His mercy if He perceives that you’re taking Him for granted. Misusing the grace of God may prompt Him to find a replacement, as the human heart, if not surrendered under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, can turn against God.

If you’ve been growing in unrighteousness, assuming God’s promise will cover for you, it’s time to change. Distance yourself from anything that might lead you to despise or dishonor God. Stop being a cause of others falling into sin at will, and return to God with humility and sobriety.

Study: 1 Samuel 2

Action: Refrain from anything that might lead you to dishonor God.

Stay blessed.
