“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.“
Psalm 51:10
The Christian life is such that you must consistently have a heart that is pure before God. The psalmist in our passage understood how prone man can be to wickedness and the evil way without the Spirit of the Lord. Hence, his cry for purity.
Without the Holy Spirit and a deliberate confession and casting away of sin, it is quite impossible for the Christian to have a pure heart. This is therefore a call to purity by submitting yourself constantly to the Holy Ghost for a thorough check-up.
We must remember that it is not enough to be justified according to our judgement. Always seek to understand what the Holy Spirit thinks of your actions, and never be afraid to cast away your transgressions and repent when it is revealed. This is the submission that leads to a pure heart in a Christian.
