THE COMMAND TO HATE INIQUITY

“The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.”

Proverbs 8:13

The command to love God and live righteously is one most Christians are familiar with. However, we very often forget the other side of the pendulum. God hates sin. And He wants us to hate sin too.

But can you really say you hate sin? Do you see a reason to? Most times, in a bid to be loving, we tend to accommodate sin so much that we start to get used to it, and it does not even grieve our hearts anymore.

Other times, we take a different approach by condemning and writing off the sinning soul. But as Christians, we are called to see the sinner through God’s eyes. And to do that, we hate not the person, but the sin that has them blinded to the works of God.

So many people are so bound by the chains of sin that they do not even imagine something better exists. Sin is ruining the beauty of human lives that are precious to God, and we tolerate it? This must not be so!

Hating sin means having a passion to see it nowhere around you. Hating sin is having compassion for the one who still stands in it’s clutches. What this leads you to is a place of intercession for these lost souls. What this leads you to is an utter intolerance for any form of sin in your life. So, hate iniquity, dear Christian. And if you discover the passionate hatred for sin is not present in your life, ask the Lord to correct that.

Prayer

Lord, help me to hate sin with a passion so I do not allow it any space in my life. Give me the Grace to love righteousness and seek your pleasure in the name of Jesus.
