“Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”
Genesis 50:19-20
Most of us know the story of Joseph, and how went through a series of trials just after the Lord showed him the place He had in mind for him. In the passage, Joseph’s brothers after their machinations against him were confronted with the reality of his existence and prosperity in the place they had sent him to die. They were repentant and sorry for their actions and also begged for forgiveness.
However, his reply was not what they expected. He told them to not be afraid because what they had meant for evil, the Lord had turned it for good so that it worked exactly according to His plan. It wasn’t in his place to judge them or condemn them, as he was not in the place of God to do so.
Dear Christian, allow God. Allow God! That glory which you have heard will come to pass still. And if you seem to be passing through a thorny path at the moment, remember that as long as you’re on the path that God put you, as long as you are surrendered to Him, He is working it out for good.
God is so intentional about writing your story that He doesn’t take His hand off your life’s steering wheel for one moment. You will see the promised land. You will see the goodness of God. But you must learn to persevere and not do evil or fight for yourself in the place of the Lord.
Let patience have it’s perfect work in you. This is the beginning of your story, dear Christian. Be patient enough to watch it unfold. And do not give in to the temptation to revenge against the ones proving to be temptations in your life. That’s God’s place. Let Him have His way with them. Just ensure you do not step out of His plan for you because when you are patient, all He has promised will be fulfilled. Wait, and do so in the place of the Lord.
Prayer
1. Lord, I ask for the grace to wait until the story you are writing with my life begins to unfold.
2. I ask for the wisdom to do the right things while I wait.
3. Help me not to take laws or vengeance into my hands or distrust you because of your silence.
