THE GROWING CHRISTIAN

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22-23.

The Bible says in Gal. 4:1 that, as long as an heir remains a child, he differs not from a servant, though he is lord of all. It means that while there is no dispute as to who owns all that is available, he can never access them as long as he remains a child. That’s a pitiable thing and one of the primary reasons all Christians must constantly pursue growth.

It is quite impossible to entrust something big into the hands of a man that carries no capacity. It is just the same as handing over the keys to a car to a five-year-old child. You end up killing him with what was meant to be a gift. And that is why our Father might never open certain doors as long as you remain a child and refuse to grow.

In the Christian journey, it is a crime to remain the same as you were the day before. This is because, with God, there is always more, and you cannot afford to be satisfied with yesterday’s glory when you have a Father that provides unending blessings. Therefore, you must always be in a position where you are building capacity for what He has for you next. Hence, resting on yesterday’s laurels is one childish behaviour that will prevent you from walking into all God has for you in your lifetime.

To be a growing Christian, you must first learn to be a DOER of the Word of God. Both the written and preceding Word of God. As much as you hear, DO. As much as you understand, DO. Be that son that obeys immediately Father says a word. And, of course, to be a doer of the Word, you must be a hearer and reader of the Word. Also, to gain an understanding of the Word you have read, you must engage the Holy Spirit in prayer and meditation. This is how you grow. From glory to glory. From capacity to capacity. From child to heir.

Finally, brethren, “…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.” Amen. 2 Peter 3:18.

Prayer

Lord, help me to do your Word consistently. Please, help me to never remain a babe in the things of the Spirit. I desire to grow every day, please grant me the virtues needed to help me grow. In Jesus’ name, I have prayed. Amen.

  1. Amen.
As we delight in our physical growth and that of our children, much more should we delight in our spiritual growth.
God has given us the grace to grow.
    Thank you.
