HOW TO LOVE GOD

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

John 14:15

I have an encompassing emotional tug in my heart towards God, and I have come to realise that God is my everything, and I even feel like there is nothing I can do without Him. But is this how God defines love? The emotion that makes you cry out at His overwhelming presence? The way your heart feels that makes it seem like you never want to leave Him?

While these feelings are valid, God honours and recognises them; we must also understand that to love God is to obey Him. That is, to keep His commandments. Your show of emotion honours God if it is done with a heart willing to obey. God’s love language is the fact that you honour His word and yearn to do it. “If ye love me, Keep my commandments.”

Never mistake quantifying your love for God solely by how you feel. Instead, let it be hinged on your reverential submission to Him—that is, you will go when He says go, and you will stay when He says wait. Let it hinge on your honour of His word above everything else. May the grace of the Lord be with you.

Prayer

  1. Lord, I ask that you teach me to love you.
  2. Thank you, Lord, for the honour of an intimate relationship with you. It’s so beautiful that I get to call you Father; help me honour this grace at every moment, even with my actions, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

  1. Amen. God is not a feeling nor is he moved by feelings that aren’t genuine.

Obedience to God’s every will for my life is what I yearn for.

    Thank you.
