THE DANGERS OF TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED

We then, as workers together with Him, also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2

Corinthians 6:1

It was like a dream come true when Alice finally met Damian—the man she had always wanted to meet. She was so happy until a few months later after she witnessed certain things around him.

Melvyn got married to the love of his life, and he was set to spend the rest of his life loving Kelly until he caught himself taking his companionship for granted and wondering what was so special anyway.

What about you? Perhaps you just got your dream job, but suddenly, you begin to miss deadlines and take it like a play toy. Then, you lose interest and don’t even like resuming daily.

Why do we do this? Why do we allow ourselves to forget the value of important things just because we have been graced to have them? Do you know that the minute you see certain things as familiar and take them for granted, you lose any ability to benefit from or be blessed by them?

We must consciously strive not to lose our sense of wonder for the blessings we have been granted. It is commonplace to be grateful in the initial times of receiving benefits, but we should learn how to sustain that gratitude as time goes on, and God forbid that we ever take this attitude toward God’s presence. Taking his love, grace, and mercy for granted is the biggest mistake one can ever make, and I pray we never fall into this trap.

Strive to consciously and intentionally never lose your sense of wonder.

Prayer

  1. Dear God, I ask for a grateful heart today. Please help me see the many blessings you have already given me that I have taken for granted.
  2. Lord, please, help my heart. Renew my sense of wonder and gratitude for what you’ve given me. Help me to honour these gifts, so I keep the door open to the blessings you want to give me through them.

This is our message for today, and we hope you were blessed. We’d also love to hear from you; please comment below.
