“In the LORD put I my trust: How say ye to my soul, flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, That they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.”

Psalm 11:1-2

When the ground beneath you trembles, the instinct is to run away from there to a place of safety. Yet David’s response in Psalm 11 is not panic, but trust and conviction. The MSG version says, “I’ve already run… to the arms of God.” That changes everything. When your refuge is not a place but a Person, fear loses its authority.

This was the posture of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when the decree went out to bow or burn. The entire nation moved in fear, but they stood in faith. The ground beneath them was shaking with pressure, expectation, and the certainty of death, yet they did not run to safety, nor did they bend to survive. Their answer carried an unshaken resolve: God was able to deliver them, but even if He did not, they would not bow.

That is the language of those who have already found their refuge in God. And when they were thrown into the fire, it did not consume them; it revealed Him. In the midst of flames, they were not alone. So in the midst of shaking ground, remain. Not in doubt, but in faith. Not in despair, but in divine assurance. You have already run to the safest place there is—the arms of God.

Charge: God is not asking you to flee; He is calling you to trust. And sometimes, the greatest declaration of faith is simply this: I will not run.
