“Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.”
Judges 18:7
This verse paints a picture of a community that seemed safe, comfortable, and self-sufficient, but in reality, they were vulnerable because they had no protection or deeper foundation. It’s a reminder that outward peace and prosperity can be deceptive if we neglect what truly sustains us.
In today’s world, it’s easy to build a life that looks secure: career success, financial stability, social approval, yet still lacks spiritual grounding or resilience when challenges come. Judges 18:7 calls us to examine whether our “peace” is genuine or fragile.
True security isn’t found in isolation or comfort; it’s found in God’s presence, wisdom, and strength. Real peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of God in the midst of it.
Charge: Don’t settle for a life that only appears safe. Build your foundation on faith, integrity, and community, so that when storms come, you’re not left unprotected.
