“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17
Someone once asked during a prayer meeting, “Do you believe Jesus is here?” We all answered yes. Then he added, “Would you pray differently if God opened your eyes to see Jesus physically standing among us?” In that moment, it became clear how easily we take God’s presence for granted. We believe He is with us because Scripture affirms it, yet we often behave casually or carelessly simply because we cannot see Him with our physical eyes.
Our Scripture today reveals the depth of God’s presence among His people. It reminds us that God is mighty in our midst and actively at work—saving, comforting, rejoicing, and singing over us. His presence is not passive. It is powerful, joyful, and deeply affectionate. And because He rejoices over us, no sorrow, fear, or emotional weight has the right to overwhelm God’s children. His presence brings rest, peace, and stability, even when life feels uncertain.
When believers embrace the reality of His nearness, they walk in a level of victory the enemy cannot resist. Awareness of God’s presence changes how we pray, worship, speak, and even relate to one another. Whether we gather to pray, share the word, or simply fellowship, we must stay conscious that God Himself is present. This consciousness removes strife, builds unity, strengthens faith, and keeps our hearts fixed on the One who is able to help, heal, and deliver.
Charge: Be intentional about honouring His presence. When God takes His rightful place among us, joy, rest, and victory are inevitable.
