“[24] For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? [25] But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.”

Romans 8:24-25

How many of you are familiar with the popular hymn: Standing On The Promises Of God? Story has it that the writer was diagnosed with a heart condition. Despite being from a Christian home, that diagnosis changed his conviction. He rededicated his life to God.

He committed himself to believe and stand upon the promises of Scripture, especially those about healing, life, and God’s faithfulness. He began to pray and confess the promises of God over his life and health. Over time, he experienced a dramatic improvement in his condition, so much so that he lived another 49 years in strength and service.

Resting in God’s promises does not always mean understanding how or when they will be fulfilled. It means choosing to believe that they will, even when we don’t see it. God’s promises are often planted like seeds, hidden and waiting for their season to sprout. You don’t dig them up to check if they’re growing; you water them, and rest in the assurance that they will grow. That’s how God’s promises are; they never return void.

Charge: What promise from God have you been anxious about lately? What would it look like if you truly rested in it today?
