“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”

Proverbs 18:13

The Scripture describes it stupid and embarrassing to give an answer before listening. Do you hear the facts before answering or otherwise? It is wise to hear or listen before drawing conclusions about issues to avoid nursing regrets, because whenever we jump to conclusions before listening to people, it is considered rude and insulting.

We must learn and also cultivate the habit of listening before responding to all matters either serious or trivial. When we consistently practice the act of listening, we save ourselves from unnecessary problems and strive. Apart from learning or choosing to listen to people, we must also consciously listen to God and never jump into conclusions about all matters.

We must patiently hear God speak to us before reacting or giving Him a response because it is foolish and shameful to answer God before listening to Him. The book of James 1:19 encourages us to be quick to listen and slow to speak (this is considered the wisdom of God). Dear friends, lead with your ears and follow up with your tongue. May the Lord teach us by the help of the Holy Spirit to be a good listener and tame our tongue. Amen.

Charge: Be a ready listener. Be swift to hear.
