“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
Giving is an essential part of the Christian life. But have you ever stopped to think about the attitude behind your giving? Are you giving grudgingly, out of obligation, or are you giving with a cheerful heart?
In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul writes that God loves a cheerful giver. The word ‘cheerful’ here means “joyful” or “prompt to do something with pleasure.” It’s the idea of giving with joy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to bless others.
When we give with a cheerful heart, we reflect the character of God, who gives generously and abundantly. We also demonstrate our trust in God’s provision and our gratitude for His blessings.
Charge: Tell our Heavenly Father to help you to cultivate a cheerful heart in your giving.
