“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.”
Proverbs 11:1
Did you know the Bible is line upon line and precept upon precept? This means that everything you learn should be stacked upon the other to form a whole. So, except you learnt wrongly, you’re not allowed to forget the other things you learned because you just discovered a profound truth.
The truths in God are stacked upon each other and should never be taken out of place by quoting and holding close to just one part and leaving the rest. No, this should never be done. For example, the Bible says wives should submit to their husbands. But do you know that you’ll be in trouble if you accept that truth and leave everything else? The Bible says that, but it also describes the sort of man you should submit to as your head. If you neglect God’s word in the man you should choose as your spouse, it becomes challenging to submit, and the Word of God that says submit isn’t going to change because you made a mistake.
That is why it is imperative to understand the whole Bible and stack the lessons you’re taught on top of each other. This is because neglecting one part and holding on to the other can only lead to pain, sorrow, and mistakes.
Imagine learning a profound truth that God rates the intent of your heart highly and then abandoning the place of action because you think that since the intent matters that much, you should only present that to God. No. That is not how it should be. Learning a truth like that should only push you to ensure your heart is right before God so you can be sure that your actions are acceptable. It doesn’t mean that you abandon the things you have learnt before.
The way to achieve balance is by putting all you have learnt in its rightful place and learning how it works with other truths. Refrain from falling to the temptation of ignoring many other truths in favour of just one (however great a truth it might be). Instead, realise that each word has its rightful place and purpose.
Many Christians suffer and wonder why they’re suffering, but it is usually because they hold tightly to one part of the truth and neglect the others. Do not be such a Christian. There’s beauty in balance.
Prayer
- Lord, teach me what it means to be a balanced Christian.
- Father, I ask that you help me not to neglect the other truths you have shown me because of a new revelation.
- Help me, Father, to understand that your word, whether written or preceding, is line upon line and precept upon precept.
- Help me, Lord, to stop interpreting your Word in a way that suits me instead of hearing from you.
