“One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.”
Luke 17:15-16
This is a great secret that can change your life entirely—GRATITUDE. Gratitude is a state of mind where you experience deep appreciation and a sense of thankfulness for things that have been done for you. It comes from the heart, not just the lips, and is one of the secrets to attracting favour from God and man.
Do you know that gratitude is essential to making your testimony whole? Scrutinise these verses and see the power gratitude can do in your life. “Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:16-19.
Observe that the ten lepers were healed of their disease; however, only one (a foreigner at that) returned to give praise God. He realised that his faith made him whole, and it was only possible through the power of Christ. When we receive anything from God, it is best never to do so with an ungrateful or over-familiar heart. God doesn’t need our appreciation to remain God, but He is always glad when we exhibit gratitude when shown kindness.
Imagine being in a state where you’re supposed to complain that even people might bear you witness that you have every right to complain. Still, instead of complaining, you sit and begin to reflect on all the times God has been faithful to you, and then you start thanking and praising Him.
Imagine your spouse has just corrected you in a manner you don’t like, and the next thing you say is, ” I’m grateful to you”. Do you know that that action can reignite their love for you? Allowing your mind, at that moment, to dwell on the things you’re grateful for will alleviate whatever hurt you feel.
Learn to reflect on the good things and past victories, and allow gratitude to flow out of your heart. Make it a habit to close your eyes sometimes and remember the goodness of God. Make it a practice never to let anyone or anything else, including yourself, share God’s glory with Him.
God has done so much for us; taking the time to praise Him is worth it. So spend time praising God, deliberately remembering His goodness in your life.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you for the gift of You. I am deeply grateful for it is the greatest gift I have ever been given. I am sorry for the times I haven’t returned to appreciate your name for the things you have done and undone. Father, I ask that you teach me how to reflect on your plenteous mercies instead of letting the hardships of the moment make me forget. All glory, honour, and adoration be to you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
