“I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.”

Psalm 85:8

Do believers truly experience peace the way it is spoken of? For some, it seems untrue—almost like playing religious so others may be convinced of their faith, whereas their lives are far from what they profess. Establishing peace among believers as real, beyond mere words, is to live it out both consciously and unconsciously. It is that state of rest and an unperturbed mind in the face of adversity.

Looking into our text, Psalm 85:8b says, “For he will speak peace unto his people.” It says His people, not things; His people, not circumstances. This shows God’s carefulness in ensuring that those who are His are at peace within before they can be at peace with others or with situations around them. It also reveals that our confidence is built on the peace that comes from within, not one determined by conditions.

We inherit peace as God’s gift, not one attached only to pleasant situations. It is not rehearsed, nor can it be faked. It is a nature of God inherited from the moment we give our lives to Christ. This is why believers can be calm in the midst of a boisterous wind.

Charge: Let your soul find rest in God and refuse to return to anxiety.
