“For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him.”
Psalm 55:12
Betrayal cuts deepest when it comes from those closest to us. Strangers can wound, but friends, family, or trusted companions have the power to pierce the heart. David knew this pain when Absalom conspired with Ahithophel to turn against him. Jesus experienced it too when Judas, one of His disciples, betrayed Him with a kiss.
The familiar can be both a source of comfort and a place of danger. We often let our guard down with those we know, assuming loyalty and love will always remain. Yet Scripture reminds us that human hearts are fragile, and trust can be broken.
Betrayal does not have the last laugh. God uses even the sting of broken trust to draw us closer to Him. When the familiar fails us, the faithful One remains. His love is steadfast, His promises unshaken, and His presence unchanging.
Charge: Betrayal fulfils prophecy yet doesn’t catch God off guard. Learn to trust that God uses even betrayal for His purpose.
