“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”
Deuteronomy 8:18
True wealth is not found in the abundance of possessions but in the peace that accompanies divine provision. Many possess riches yet cannot sleep at night. Others strive endlessly but gain nothing enduring. The difference lies in the source. When God gives wealth, He adds no sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22).
Once, there were two brothers. One gained wealth through dishonest means, while the other earned his wealth through hard work and integrity. For a time, the first brother thrived and boasted of his success, while the second lived contentedly, trusting in the Lord. However, the day of reckoning came for the dishonest brother—his riches fell, and he faced misery. In contrast, the honest brother continued to enjoy lasting peace and quiet abundance.
This story serves as a reminder that God’s blessings come with peace, but any wealth gained through unrighteousness is fleeting and destructive. The children of Israel were reminded not to forget the Source of their prosperity. It was not their skill or strength that brought them increase, it was God who gave them power, the divine ability, wisdom, and opportunity to prosper. God is not against wealth; He is against forgetfulness. He delights in blessing His people, but His blessings are meant to glorify Him, not replace Him.
Charge: Do not forget your source of wealth. When you acknowledge Him as your Source, your wealth becomes an instrument of worship and service.
