“And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.”
2 Kings 6:6-7
There are moments in life when it seems as though something valuable has slipped from our hands and sunk beyond recovery. It may be a lost opportunity, a broken relationship, or even a faltering faith. To the natural eye, it feels final like an axe head swallowed up by the river’s depth (our opening verse). But God, who made iron float, is still in the business of restoration.
When Elisha asked the young prophet, “Where fell it?” he was inviting him to identify the place of loss. God often asks us the same. Where did you stumble? Where did hope fade? Where did you stop believing? Restoration begins when we bring that place back to Him.
Through Christ, what is naturally irretrievable becomes supernaturally recoverable. Just as the young prophet stretched out his hand to take back the axe head, we must by faith reach out and lay hold of what God restores to us.
Charge: No matter how deep the loss, no matter how long it has sunk, God can cause it to rise again. He still restores.
