And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”

1 Chronicles 4:10

When we come into the Lord’s presence with our requests, we should learn to prayerfully seek His face for answers. It would excite us to know that “He hears us”, and also grants our requests according to His will and discretion. Someone might be in doubt about this because he/she has presented a request before the Lord and it seems delayed for months or years.

Irrespective of what we have experienced after asking the Lord for our needs, we should live consciously of the fact that our God will always grant our request. We have read in the Scriptures and will continue to make reference to God’s wondrous acts of kindness to His beloved children, who call upon Him in spirit and truth.

Our devotional verse reminds us that God gave Jabez what he prayed for, and we can also hold on to this truth in God’s word because He gives to all men who ask, seek, and knock liberally.

Charge: As we consider our own lives, let’s remember that we, too, are invited to approach God with our hearts’ desires and to expect His goodness in return.
