“We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee. Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.”

Jeremiah 14:20-21

One characteristic of our God is that He is a covenant-keeping God. If there is someone whom you can always trust to keep His word, it would be God our Father. Haven’t you noticed that the promises we declare daily were also declared by our fathers of old? These promises were covenants that He entered into with our fathers of old.

Yet, despite their ages, God still honours them whenever we declare them. Isn’t this mind-boggling? Look at Abraham, the covenant God made with him passed from him to Isaac, his son, and then to Jacob, his grandson and down to Jacob’s children’s children.

Yes, we may fall; we may turn away, and we may feel unworthy, but God remains true to His Word. His covenant isn’t fragile. It’s not easily broken by human weakness. It’s upheld by His integrity, sealed by His name, and sustained by His mercy. This is your assurance today: If you belong to God through Christ, you are in an everlasting covenant; one sealed by the blood of Jesus. No sin is too deep, no history too broken, for His covenant love to cover and restore.

Charge: The Israelites were guilty, and so are we at times. But when we come in repentance, acknowledging our sins, He remembers mercy over judgment.
