“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.”
2 John 1:9
Not so many people who offer service before God actually fellowship. To set the record straight, there needs to be clarification that not all who call upon the name of the Lord are saved. Perhaps, you’ve been made to think that how much you give to God is what determines your walk and position with God. Know and understand, it’s a wrong perception about who a true follower of Christ is.
It is a different thing to receive the doctrine of Christ, and a different thing to abide by it. According to our text, the Spirit of God only attests to the lives of those who have both the Father—God and the Son—Jesus, resident in them; not as mere visitors called upon only when needed to help lift our burdens.
To transgress does not imply a state of imperfection that is actively being worked on for improvement; rather, it is a betrayal, pledging loyalty to another master while deceitfully following Christ. True fellowship with Christ means giving our consent to serve God wholeheartedly, with our entire heart, spirit, and body, throughout all our days.
Charge: Have you been abiding wholly in the doctrine of Christ?
