“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” Malachi 4:1
Pride often grow silently. It creeps in subtly, especially when we think we can live without God, when we choose to walk in our own wisdom, or when we place ourselves above His instructions. Wickedness thrives when we continually ignore God’s standards and follow the patterns of the world. But our opening verse reminds us that such a path leads to complete ruin.
There is a day set by God; a day that cannot be postponed, denied, or avoided. It is the day of the Lord’s judgment. That day will burn like an oven, consuming the proud and all who practise wickedness, leaving nothing behind—not a root or a branch. This warning isn’t to imbue fear into our hearts, but it is a call to sober living today.
We have been given a choice. God is calling His children to walk in humility and righteousness, to live in reverence, and to honour Him with their hearts and lives. The same fire that consumes the wicked purifies the righteous. We can choose to be refined by God’s love or consumed by His judgment. Are you living in pride? Are there secret ways in you that displease the Lord? His grace gives us the chance to turn, repent, and walk in His ways.
Charge: The day of reckoning is sure, but so is the Lord’s mercy for those who humble themselves and seek Him.
