“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1
The story of David as a shepherd boy helps us to gain a clear understanding of what it means to be a shepherd. As a former shepherd himself, he knew exactly what it meant to care for sheep, to guide, protect, and provide for them. And he knew well to call the Lord his Shepherd.
When we declare the Lord as our true shepherd, we express absolute trust and dependence on God. Consider sheep: they are vulnerable and often prone to wandering, yet with a faithful shepherd, they are secure. In the same way, we are prone to anxiety, temptation, and confusion, but when we walk with the True Shepherd, we find peace, direction, and provision.
So, today’s Scripture isn’t just poetic—it’s deeply personal. It speaks of a relationship, not religion. Are you weary from trying to lead your own life? The True Shepherd offers rest, restoration, and peace. The True Shepherd knows your name, your needs, your struggles, and your dreams. And in His presence, you lack nothing for your journey.
Charge: Is the Lord your True Shepherd? Trust Him today in your decisions, fears, and future.
