“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Psalm 23:1
In the above scripture, the Psalmist paints a powerful picture of God as our Shepherd. The word ‘Shepherd’ means to care, provide, and guide—all of which are qualities that God extends to every one of us. Therefore, when we say, “The Lord is my Shepherd,” we are declaring trust in His ability to care, provide and guide us.
Every shepherd leads his sheep to safe pastures, just the way God leads us to places of peace and rest. Even in our chaotic world and situations, God provides calming moments to refresh our souls. He doesn’t only guide us; He provides for us in every way and ensures that we do not lack anything, both spiritually and materially.
Moreover, God’s guidance is always for our good; although we may not always understand His ways. He leads us in paths of righteousness and helps us to grow in His love and holiness. Even in dark and difficult seasons, He walks with us and offers comfort. In every season of life, we can rest assured that the Lord, our Shepherd, is with us, to guide, provide, and keep us in His love.
Charge: Let’s trust in His ability and follow His lead, knowing that we are never alone.
