“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45
The principle of leadership for the kingdom is far different from the world’s system of operation. Ministry is to render service to others. Taking us back to the book of Mathew 20:25-28, Jesus taught His disciples to forgo the entitlement mentality of being a ruler over one another.
This doesn’t also mean to give in to slavery, it rather means a conscious and deliberate effort of ensuring orderliness through sacrificial service. It is in doing this that a true leader will be known. In the world, we regard charisma as the first, but to us who are saved, humility defines who is worthy of greatness. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet and commanded them to do the same – until then, leadership was not better understood.
It is in our readiness to serve that we’d come across an opportunity that will lead us to the path of greatness. We’d gain control of people’s hearts when we commit ourselves to service – in the breaking of bread, washing of feet, serving tables, and embracing the weaker vessels. Aside from God’s instruction to serve, ministering unto others remains the road to the top – a peculiar gift, and God’s secret of raising men.
Charge: It is not enjoyment to watch others serve you, it only deprives you of the opportunity to lead effectively.
