“Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?”

Haggai 2:3

Today’s scripture reminds us of the story of the rebuilding of the temple by the children of Israel. This scripture reveals to us today that some of us might have witnessed the magnificient acts of God in the church from time memorial—the zeal of the church towards the works of God, the passion for witnessing Christ to the unsaved, the countless miracles, healings, signs and wonders, the life of holiness, sanctity and consecration the believers outlived, which cannot be compared to the current state of the church.

The former glory of the temple was beyond human imagination such that other nations trooped in to have a view of its’ splendour. But the Israelites sinned against the Lord and lost it all. Afterwards, the children of Israel sought the face of the Lord for forgiveness and were restored.

Dear Beloved, you might have sinned and come short of God’s glory, but the Lord is merciful and gracious to restore you—if you are willing to return to Him. He is willing to make the glory of the latter greater than the former. May the Lord continue to be merciful and gracious to us. Amen

Charge: Remember not the former things! The Lord will do a new thing. Just return to Him!
