“But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and striving about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain”.
Titus 3:9
The purpose of reading or studying the Bible is to know Christ and develop an intimate relationship with Him. Sadly, many Christians read the Bible so that they can be able to have facts to argue. Meanwhile, today’s text is teaching us to avoid foolish and vain talks, as they are unprofitable. The Bible is a ‘Just’ book; it is to be studied for transformation and the renewing of the mind.
In Proverbs 10:19, the Bible says: “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” The more you commit yourself to empty talks, the more you sin against God. Anytime I go to work and talk too much, at the end of the day I don’t feel good. I feel empty and guilty as if the presence of the Holy Spirit is not with me. This is because in my multitude of words, I said something that didn’t glorify God.
Again, you lose your value and integrity as a Christian before men, and the heavenly Father won’t be pleased with you. You must be careful of the kind of conversation you engage yourself in and be mindful of your selection of words. Let your utterances glorify God and bring peace to the heart of your listeners. You must be quick to listen but slow to speak. Vain arguments do not glorify God.
Charge: In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking. Bridle your tongue.
