A PRAYER FOR MERCY

“Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.”

Psalm 27:9

The Bible is full of verses that teach us that our God is a God of mercy, and not just on the pages of the Bible, but also by experience—we have come to enjoy the mercy of God at one point or the other. The Bible also says that the mercies of God are new every morning. This means there is always an abundance of it and a soothing relief of hope to anyone who may have been battered by the vicissitudes of life.

While our God is so merciful, we also need to know how to appropriate His mercy to ourselves in times of great need. The Bible says that the Lord is nigh unto them that call Him. To call unto God means to pray to Him, and this is exactly what the great Psalmist did in today’s message.

We have to constantly call unto God and acknowledge Him as our helper just as the Psalmist did. There can never be too much of a prayer for mercy. This is one of the ways we show God that we are inadequate in ourselves, and therefore, except He decides to show us mercy, the enemy will take us for granted.
