“Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.”

Ruth 3:18

A mentor is a leader who inspires and leads their mentees. Every child of God needs a good spiritual mentor in their life. But the believer must be careful who mentors them. Your mentor must be someone who loves and fears God. The person you accept as your mentor must be someone who is able to lead you into the righteousness of God. Not the one that will lead you to make wrong life choices.

In 1 Samuel 3:7, Eli, the priest, mentored Samuel to know the Lord because at that point in Samuel’s life, the word of the Lord hadn’t been revealed to Samuel. This is an example of a good spiritual mentorship. Also, in 2 Kings 2-9, the chapters revealed how Elijah mentored Elisha to become a prophet of God.

In today’s scripture, Naomi, who was Ruth’s mother in-law, proves that she is a good mentor to Ruth. She advised Ruth to wait, and the subsequent scripture shows that Ruth truly waited. If Naomi wasn’t a godly woman, she wouldn’t have given Ruth the godly advice to wait. Godly advice will affect us positively and reveal the glory of God in us.

Charge: Let us wait on God to lead us to the right mentor.
