“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Proverbs 12:10

Imagine a world where everyone is kind with their words and attitude – helping and supporting each other without complaint. It would be a beautiful world, right? Well, it starts with you and me. A lot is going on in people’s lives these days.  That man who unintentionally stepped on your toe could have been engrossed with thoughts about making ends meet for his family. The young lady sitting by you on that bus might have faced rejection. And so many other unseen things people go through.

So, the least we can do is be kind to people, even when we are displeased. Think about it: Jesus was kind to everyone, including those who condemned and crucified him. He also said that if you love only those who love you, there’s no reward in it – after all, unbelievers do the same (Matthew 5:46). Therefore, it is not Christ-like to be selective about who we show kindness to. It should be a lifestyle.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be discerning to know those who mean good or bad for us. This might sound difficult, but that is why we need the Holy Spirit to direct us. Hence, let us be kind, regardless of any situation.

Charge: The love of God is shed abroad in your heart, manifest it by being kind to others.
