“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
James 3:17
Wisdom is the principal thing, the scripture says. However, is wisdom just knowing the right application of things? Knowing the right time to do something and the right time not to?
So, if that’s all there is to wisdom, can someone who applies the knowledge of knowing the most emotional or vulnerable state of others and uses it to take advantage of them be said to be wise also?In the eyes of the world, perhaps. But in the eyes of God, the true giver of wisdom, that is utter foolishness.
What then can we define wisdom as?
Wisdom is seeking God and applying yourself to do that which He says in the way He has said it. The way to ascertain that one is practicing the God-kind of wisdom is to check the fruits you bear – is it pure? Is it peaceable? Is it gentle? Is it full of mercy and goodness? Is it easy to be entreated? Is it without partiality and hypocrisy? Is it in alignment with God’s will and intentions?
Then, that is the wisdom that comes from God. Seek it and practice it, because in it is life.
